According to NBC Washington, Former White House Press Secretary James Brady's death could be ruled as a homicide, the medical examiner for the Northern District of Virginia ruled Friday.

Brady, who became a leading voice in the fight for gun control, died on Monday, August 24 at the age of 73.

The medical examiner said that Brady died as a result of the injuries he suffered 33 years ago, which means that gunman John Hinckley Jr. could be charged with Brady's murder.

Hinkley attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in 1981. Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity on June 21, 1982.
