The thing about the affects of the 77 million baby boomers all turning 65 between now and 2030 is that it's going to cost A LOT of money. Just as an example, and Tom Lorenz mentions this in the first interview in this program, Medicare will be in deficit spending by 2018. And this is forecast to go clear through to the year 2076. That's just one area where the economy is going to be behind the eight ball in the years and decades to come. But, this is just a challenge that Americans can meet head on and that's what I propose all the way through every episode of The McCarthy Report. In this program Tom Lorenz, owner of Be Home 4 Ever, and I start out by talking about the cost of older people taking falls and we examine ways that families with older loved ones can help them stay safe. Falls these days are just about staying safe any longer though. Falls today are ticking economic time bombs, and we can minimize the threat here by taking action in our homes and the homes of our older loved ones.

Next is a conversation with a great lady, Dr. Ethelle Lord, president of The International Caregivers Association. She has a wealth of knowledge about dementia and Alzheimer's care giving. She tells her story about her husbands dementia and how she has reversed many of his symptoms just by putting coconut oil in his food. Plus she talks about caregivers uniting together from all over the world through her organization to help each other be better caregivers and to hopefully find more ways to reduce the enormous price tag associated with dementia both here in the US and around the world.

Last, but not least, too many older adults become isolated and lose their connection with other people. This, of course, creates problems that adds more expense to caring for the aging. Anita Renzetti, who is the VP of Public Relations with Toastmasters International Club 890 in San Francisco believes that Toastmasters has a service that can be of benefit. Check it out.

I hope this program brings everyone who hears it to a place where you think about what you can do to help in addressing the challenges America faces with the changing age demographic. It really is an 'all hands on deck' type of event and with the experience, wisdom and resources that are so abundant in the people of this country, I believe that we will not just meet the challenges but actually thrive because of them.  What do you say? Shall we get to work?
