American League Edges National League To Win 2019 All-Star Game

The American League held on for a 4-3 victory over the National League in the 2019 All-Star Game in Cleveland, Ohio. Joey Gallo blasted a solo home run in the seventh inning that turned out to be the difference in the game. The ball had an exit velocity of 111.5 mph, making it the hardest-hit ball in an All-Star Game since Statcast began tracking the numbers in 2015.

The American League took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Michael Brantley ripped a two-out double into the gap to score Alex Bregman.

Gary Sanchez scored on an infield single by Jorge Polanco in the fifth inning to give the American League a 2-0 lead.

Charlie Blackmon put the National League on the board with a deep home run to right-center field in the sixth inning.

The American League added another run when Xander Bogarts grounded into a run-scoring double play in the seventh inning. Later in the inning, Gallo's home run would make it 4-1.

The National League battled back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to a two-run single by Home Run Derby Champion Peter Alonso.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman closed out the game by striking out the side in the top of the ninth to earn the save. Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka earned the win, while Dodgers ace Kleyton Kershaw was handed the loss.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Shane Bieber was named the MVP for striking out the side in the fifth inning.
