Congratulations to Senator Brittany Pettersen on the birth of her baby boy.
The Senator is the first legislator in Colorado history to give birth during the legislative session. Mom and baby are both doing well.
With this being the first occurrence in Colorado's state legislature, there currently is no maternity leave policy. The Democrat majority will shrink to 18-16 with the absence of Senator Pettersen, who plans to return to work as soon as possible. All votes in the State Senate need 18 votes to pass, making legislation a bit more challenging to get passed without gaining Republican support.
