A black bear was spotted roaming the aisles of a Ralphs grocery store in Los Angeles over the weekend.
Actress Trisha Campbell happened to be in the store at the time and filmed the 125-pound bear casually strolling down the aisle past a display of candy. While other customers in the store seem unfazed by the bear, Campbell was clearly startled by her close encounter with the wild animal and quickly left the store.
Workers managed to chase the bear out of the store, and it continued wandering down the street toward a nearby Walmart. California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers located the bear hiding underneath a trailer at a construction site behind Walmart's parking lot. They used non-lethal beanbag rounds to get the bear out from underneath the trailer and then tranquilized it. The bear was transported to a safe area and released. The officers attached a tracking tag to its ear so they would be notified if it returns to a populated area.
Tim Daly, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, told KTLA that it is common for bears to wander into town from the mountains seeking food.
"Bears know that if they come down out of the mountains into a town, they're going to find food — they're seeking food and water," Daly told the news station.
