The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly trading former first-round pick Jared McCain to the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for a first-round pick acquired in previous trade with the Houston Rockets and three second-round picks, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday (February 4).
"BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on his X account. "76ers are receiving the following second-round picks from the Thunder, sources said: 2027 (most favorable OKC/HOU/IND/MIA), 2028 MIL, 2028 OKC."
McCain, 21, was selected by the Sixers at No. 16 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft and was a favorite to win the 2025 NBA Rookie of the Year award before his first season was cut short due to a meniscus tear in his left knee. The former Duke University standout underwent surgery on a thumb injury in October before appearing in 37 games, averaging 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 37 games during the 2025-26 season.
Oklahoma City currently has the best record in the NBA, having retained its champion roster which includes NBA regular season and NBA Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and All-Star big man Chet Holmgren.
"The talented McCain lands on the reigning NBA champions. For the 76ers, the trade allows them to receive assets, clear space in the glut of guards and give them flexibility to bring Quentin Grimes back in free agency. It also allows them to convert two-way Dominick Barlow," Charania wrote on his X account.
