Fort Collins is trying to get the citizens to help them stop "porch pirates". What the city wants to do is have people subscribe their doorbell camera into a database, and give the police permission to use it if there is a crime in the area. It is a good idea in theory, but it can be a very slippery slope; almost invasive to an extent. According to the FOX31 story, the Chief of Police Jeff Swoboda said, “the police will not have access to the footage unless you give them permission.” We will see how many people register for this, but it seems to be a bit controversial. There is definitely a problem with people taking packages off porches, but I am not sure this is the answer on how to a stop it.
Do you think is this too invasive?
